Q: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don’t like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first place.
I'm not very likely to jump genres. I'm pretty set on sci-fi and fantasy for my reading. I'm much more likely to read adult sci-fi or fantasy, though. Right now I'm reading book 4 of Game of Thrones which is absolutely NOT a YA book. I do like to get in some more adult situations and lead characters, but I like female leads that aren't cookie-cutter, so I keep coming back to YA where they seem to be the rule rather than the exception.
Game of thrones is on my TBR, my brother has been trying to get me to read it.

Paranormal Romance
My brother got me into it as well. It's rather scarce for good female characters, but it's got a really addictive plot.
DeleteGreat answer. The Song of Ice and Fire series is awesome, I just finished the second in the series. Here is My FF

I'm working my way through the fourth book, some of the characters I don't like can seem like a slog to get through but I count the pages until some of my favorites come up again :D

DeleteI've always wanted to start that series but it doesn't really sound like my type of book! I'm willing to give it a try though because trying new genres is what this feature is all about :D hehe.

It's really dense and can be hard to get into! I am committing a cardinal sin here, but I really think you should try the show first. If you can't get into the show you won't enjoy the book at all.
DeleteI rarely jump genres myself, but I actually did do that for "Kafka on the Shore" by Haruki Murakami. Pretty darn good. Murakami is one of my favorite authors now.

DeleteI love sci fi, dystopian, and fantasy and will gravitate towards those novels for similar reasons-- love the strong female protagonists as well. I'm going to host some giveaways in the near future of new authors who do a great job with that!

I don't know why strong females seems to be a YA thing . . . it should be a half-of-books-of-all-ages thing :(
DeleteHopping through. I really need to read Game of Thrones. I have the first one but haven't started it yet.

It is kinda hard to get into, but it gets addicting later!

I read all kinds of sci-fi and fantasy, even military sf. I haven't read a lot of steampunk, but it's in my tbr stack!
DeleteGame of Thrones is one of those I'll probably read many years from now and go "why did I wait!"

Errant Author: Feature and Follow
I'm pretty sure if you're not watching the show you'll regret it! It's getting to be pretty popular.
DeleteI'm a big fan of fantasy and sci-fi, and enjoyed Game of Thrones.
