Top 10 TBRs

I have a TON of TBRs left over, especially from the Cybils.  I've also been pushing away some really good books because of Cybils reading.  I can't wait to get back to some of these books:

1.

I love anthologies, and this one about dystopians has been calling my name for quite a while.  I hope to get to it today!

2.

I was so heartbroken when this book came out in the middle of Cybils because I wanted to read it SO BAD!!!  Now I get to :D

3.

This one has come out very recently, but it's still tops on my list because the Mythos Academy books are so fun!

4.

I loved Little Brother so much that this was pushed to the top of my list.

5.

I don't know how I skipped over this book in my Cybils reading, but I can't wait to get back to it!

6.

Another Cybils book I just didn't get around to.  I love the Asian lead and the cover is beautiful!

7.

Libba Bray and a 20's theme?  I'm so in!

8.

Another book that has been sitting on my shelf for way too long.

9.

I love short story anthologies because you get to sample so many different authors and styles.   With these authors how could I resist

10.

Another anthology, this time about paranormal love.  More great names that I love, too :D

Top 10 Most Anticipated 2013 New Authors

1.

I know it's hard to believe, but I've never read any of Brenna's books even though I own all of them.  I see a reading marathon in my future!

2.

It's "Survivor" on a new planet!

3.
Prophecy Of Oz by Megan Shan

This one doesn't have a cover yet, but I can't resist Wizard of Oz books!

4.

A generation ship story with a rebellion and a romance!  I know it sounds like a lot of books already out there, but there's just something about the genre that draws me in.

5.

Alternate Universes is going to be big this year.  This is a great one about a girl who switches universes every time she makes a decision.  Sounds intriguing!

6.

Sounds like a new take on The Fox trilogy, but I'm willing to give another perspective a go, especially when it's about a girl on the run from the law just because she's AI.

7.

A neat tale about a girl who is the first to be cryogenically frozen and then successfully reanimated.

8.

A select group of people are chosen to be saved from a deadly disease by sequestering themselves in PODs.  However, they emerge to find a nightmare world.

9.

In a future where teen suicide is considered a disease and the cure is having your memories wiped Sloane and James struggle to express feelings without being thought of as "depressed" and having to go through treatment that will leave them as zombies.

10.

A Dashner-like plot where boys are playing a deadly "game".

Top 10 Most Anticipated Books of 2013

This list is authors I already know, tomorrow will be debut authors.

1.

Of course, Tamora Pierce is always my most anticipated book.  This one is a circle book, telling of Briar and Rosethorn in Gyongxi.  It'll probably be dark, which I'll love :D

2.

I love this series so much!  After dealing with anorexia, cutting, alzheimer's, and bullying the series is about to take on a new problem.  They're being mysterious as to what it is, but I'm sure I'll love it like the rest!

3.

Although it didn't make my top lists Shadow and Bone was still a really great read this last year.  I love the Russian influences and the unique magic system.  The sequel promises to be more of the same!

4.

This cover is a placeholder for the sequel Drachomachia.  I liked Seraphina a lot, and this promises to show Seraphina dealing with the consequences of her actions in the climax of the first book, which should be really fun!

5.

This picture is a placeholder because her new book, The Lost Sun, doesn't have a cover released yet.  The book is the start of a new series about an alternate reality where Norse Gods influenced America.  Sounds great!

6.

I can't wait to finally finish this series!  I love the unique plotting and great world of Amy and Elder and the Godspeed, and I really want to see where they end up!

7.

Although the first book functioned as a good stand-alone, I'm delighted that Doctorow decided to give us another book about Marcus!

8.

I can't wait to see what happens to my favorite cyborg Cinderella!

9.

Blake is starting a totally new world about Greek Gods and Goddesses and the war that is about to break out among them!

10.

Legend was one of last year's debut gems.  I can't wait to see where it goes!

Top 10 Series

Top Series I discovered in 2012 (not counting series premiers that have no sequels yet):

1.

This book was my favorite from last year's Cybils awards.  I'm so glad it's a series!

2.

Another Cybils gem, this time from this year.  I had this book on my wishlist for years, I'm so glad I read it this year!

3.

This series was a great summer read.  I like the powers and limitations the characters have, and how it complicates their lives instead of making them easier.

4.

I'm so glad I found this book this year.   Unfortunately I had to downgrade the series because I hear that book 2 is just not worth it.  I hope that's wrong, and I'll be trying it soon.

5.

I'm usually not a horror reader, but I'm glad the Cybils forced me into this book.  It's a great spooky read, and the sequel isn't bad either.

6.

I'm so behind on books!  I've started this one, but I just haven't finished!  I should, it's got a sequel out now, and it's so good . . .

 7.

This series about kids who have supernatural powers thanks to being born of a line of superheroes from ancient legend is a great read.  I love the spunk lead and her sarcastic wit!

8.

I have the second of this series and I can't wait to dive into it.  The worldbuilding is very unique and I love the plotting and the tension, two things Snyder does great!

9.

This is a great action-packed series for reluctant readers.  Although it can be a little cliche and a lot violent it's still a great fun read and I'll be keeping on with the series.

10.

I only got to read The Kairos Mechanism in this series but it's certainly peaked my interest.  I'm going to try and get ahold of The Boneshaker before I read The Broken Lands.

Top 10 Books of 2012

I had to wait until the Cyblis were announced to post my top 10 list.  To make up for it I'm going to post more than 1!   Today is Top 10 Books, tomorrow will be Top 10 Series, Thursday will be Top 10 books of 2013, Friday will be Top 10 Debut books of 2013, and Saturday will be Top 10 TBRs.

Here are the top 10 books I read in 2012:

1.

I thought this book was pretty close to perfect!  Absorbing, beautiful, and great worldbuilding.

2.

This book had a wonderful strong female lead and a realistic romance.  Plus cannibal ponies!

 3.

This book is a great YA military SF book.  Those are rare, so I love the guts to do it.  Plus, the book is good!

4.

This gem is thanks to the Cybils judging I did.  I love the theory of changing bodies every day, and it brings up wonderful questions of gender and identity.

5.

The magic in this book is just so original, and I love that it's set in Kansas!

6.

This was a great sequel that I believe could stand alone as well.  There were a lot of court/political intrigue books this year, but I thought this was the best.

7.

I can't believe I waited this long to read one of Brennan's books!  I'm glad I did, though, because this is a gem with a great story.

8.

I haven't lost any of my love for this series.  This latest book deals with Alzheimer's and bullying, which combine into a heartbreaking read.

9.

This was another Cybils gem.  It deals with dragons that can morph into human shape, and the musician Seraphina is caught up in court problems and racial tensions.

10.

I'm not really a Jane Austen fan, but this retelling was a beautiful dystopian about the benefits and dangers of science and where the line between them truly lies.
